Global warming
Green Houses Gases (GHGs) are gases in the earth’s atmosphere that traps heat preventing it from leaving the atmsphere. During the day, the Sun shines through the atmosphere, warming the earth’s surface. At night, the Earth serface cools, releasing heat back into the air. But some of the heat is traped by the GHGs in the atmosphere. This results gradual warming of the Globe.
Carbon dioxide (CO2), the most significant greenhouse gas, responsible for about three-quarters of emissions. It can linger in the atmosphere for thousands of years.

Climate change
Climate change is a long-term shift in a region’s average weather conditions, such as temperature, rainfall, and windiness. These shifts can be caused by natural processes, like changes in the sun’s activity or volcanic eruptions, but the term is often used to describe how human activities are affecting the climate.
Primary Impacts are
- More severe storms / floods
- Hotter temperature / wild fires
- A warming, rising ocean / Inland flow of Sea water
- Increased drought / Changes to rainfall paturn
- adverse impact on rainfed agriculture
- Loss of species
Secondary Impacts are
- Not enough food
- More health risks
- Poverty and displacement
- Migration
How to mitigate
Climate change mitigation involves actions to
- extract CO2 from the atmosphere and
- reduce or prevent greenhouse gas emissions from human activities.
